Owens Corning Launches VR Training Platform
Owens Corning University has launched OCU VR, a virtual reality platform created to equip contractor crews with hands-on roofing skills, strengthen knowledge retention, and allow safe practice of installation techniques before entering real work environments.
The programme is centred on the OCU VR Headset Bundle, a proprietary package that enables training at any time and in any weather conditions. The bundle includes a Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise headset, two controllers, a charger, and a setup guide that explains how to power on the device, log in, and begin training. The platform is available in both English and Spanish.
The system was created to help crews learn essential roofing methods and apply them on the job. The immersive environment places users in simulated job scenarios covering key installation tasks, including shingle offset placement, ridge ventilation, flashing procedures, and roof deck inspections.
Research referenced by the company indicates that virtual reality instruction can improve retention levels of the roofing skills. Studies show that retention may reach up to 80 per cent one year after VR-based training, compared with around 20 per cent one week after traditional instruction. The platform allows users to practise techniques in a virtual environment, reinforcing correct installation methods before they are carried out on work sites.
Access to the platform has been designed for ease of use. Platinum and Preferred Contractors can log in to their OCConnect accounts, select the OCU VR Headset Bundle, and complete the purchase directly through the site. Each shipment comes with step-by-step instructions to guide users through device setup, account access, and launching the training modules.
The platform includes two training formats. A guided learning mode provides structured instruction that explains each step in the setup procedure and outlines the value of accurate methods. An assessment mode measures user performance and transfers results to Owens Corning University. Participants who complete a course can download and print a certificate of completion.
OCU VR has also been developed to support continuous training. New modules aligned with the OCCraft curriculum will be automatically delivered to connected headsets via Wi-Fi, allowing contractors to access updated content without additional configuration.
To order the training bundle, Platinum and Preferred Contractors should log in to OCConnect, select the OCU VR Headset Bundle, and complete the checkout process. For more details, visit Owens Corning’s website or email ProDesk@owenscorning.com.
